Minister Simon Coveney with Marian O’Reilly and Noelette Dolan

Minister Simon Coveney (TD) took time out of his busy schedule, to visit the Skills for Work exhibition stand, at the Women and Agriculture Conference, which was held in the Kinghtsbrook Hotel, Trim, Co. Meath.

Over 650 women from across Ireland attended the event. It was a great opportunity to meet the women and promote the SFW programme. Many thanks to Helena Scully, Irish Farmers Journal, for organising our stand and liaising with us at all times. A great time was had by all involved.

SFW at the 84th National Ploughing Championship

At the NPC 2015 were Marian O'Reilly, Mary Hennessy, Lillian Buckley (SFW)

While the National Ploughing Championships  would traditionally has been viewed as a day for “men in wellingtons” , it has now taken on a life of its own as an enormous venue for promotion  which includes anything from  buying a tractor to returning to education. Skills for Work (SFW) were delighted to be part of the 84th National Ploughing Championships, which is rated as one of the biggest outdoor agricultural exhibitions in Europe.

Skills for Work Co-ordinators welcomed the opportunity to meet and chat with people from all over Ireland. Visitors from the UK envied Irish farmers in having herd registration on- line training programmes for farmers, provided by SFW through the ETBs AES.  While the event is mainly geared towards the agricultural sector, it is an opportunity to advertise the extensive range of SFW courses available to up skill employees from various employment sectors.  People came to learn more about our sample programmes, in some cases to ‘get better details’.    Others came to talk about the transformation in their lives which was helped by participating on SFW programme. The varied elements of the course,   the face to face interaction with fellow participants and the move towards further progression within the adult education service were some of the comments made by past SFW participants.

Skills for Work Co-ordinators had a very busy 3 days in attendance at the Stand at the NPC in Ratheneska.  We will miss the fantastic site and facilities available over the last 3 years in Portlaoise, but are already looking forward to meeting and greeting visitors and SFW participants to Tullamore for 2016.
